This client approached us with the primary goal of integrating a new spa into their existing space. However, during our initial consultation, the clients quickly realised the untapped potential of their underutilised courtyard and enlisted us for a comprehensive redesign of both the front and back areas of their property.
The front yard, previously relegated to pedestrian access, featured a lawn area that served little purpose other than adding unnecessary maintenance. Recognising its potential as a visual introduction to the home, we transformed the space into a predominantly visual courtyard. Large steps leading to the front door were designed to encourage a moment of pause, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty of the entryway. Additionally, we converted the patio into a tranquil seating area overlooking the nearby beach.
In the rear space, we created a new spa and accompanying raised platform, utilising this opportunity to delineate the space from the lower seating area and incorporate a set of stairs leading to the garage. Introducing small planters brought greenery into the space from the boundaries, enhancing engagement with the surroundings.
The lower seating area seamlessly extends indoor entertaining outdoors, encouraging simultaneous enjoyment of both areas. A strategically placed green window at the rear not only floods the garage with natural light but also offers an opportunity for additional planting in an otherwise hard surface area.
This transformation has resulted in an urban oasis for the residents, providing a serene retreat right in their own backyard.
