Bellevue Hill

This Bellevue Hill landscape was delivered in stages, beginning with the redesign of the front garden before extending to the rear yard at a later point. Across both areas, the design sought to create a more cohesive relationship between the home, its heritage character and the way the family uses the outdoor spaces.
 

At the front of the property, the challenge was to resolve a steep and visually prominent garden bed that had become difficult to maintain and no longer contributed positively to the arrival experience. A robust, fast-establishing planting palette was introduced to provide structure, coverage and year-round appeal, particularly when viewed from the home’s elevated entrance. The result is a more generous and considered approach to the property, with planting that softens the slope and gives the front garden a stronger architectural presence.
 

The rear garden was designed to be appreciated both at ground level and from the upper living areas, where much of the landscape is viewed from above. A formal European influence informed the layout, with clear geometry, layered planting and materials selected to feel naturally connected to the architecture of the home.
 

Oversized diamond steppers set within groundcover create a strong visual pattern across the expansive garden, while softening the hardscape and allowing the area to remain flexible for large family gatherings. Integrated bench seating provides additional capacity for entertaining and was carefully positioned to support the way the family hosts important celebrations and special occasions.
 

A restrained material palette brings the different areas together. Contemporary concrete paving was paired with the home’s existing sandstone thresholds, allowing the outdoor spaces to feel renewed while still speaking to the property’s heritage. The completed garden is both formal and welcoming, with distinct areas for swimming, dining, entertaining and gathering, all connected through a consistent design language.
